APL's Teen Space

Book – Divergent by Veronica Roth

Okay, this is probably the best book I’ve read in a while. It’s set in a future version of Chicago and can really make you think about the difference between Utopia & Distopia.

The City is divided. Five factions make up the people that live there. Each Factions is “dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent)” (http://www.harperteen.com/books/Divergent-Veronica-Roth/). Every year a day is chosen when anyone of age will choose what faction they are going to join, but first they must get tested to see which faction they are best suited for.  On the day of choosing they can stay with their families or they can leave that part of their life behind and change factions. When Beatrice was tested her results were inconclusive. She could fit in with three factions. She is divergent. When she makes her choice everyone is surprised and the adventures that follow are everything but dull.

I so love this book and can’t wait for the sequel. it makes a great stand alone, but I want to know more. The story is fantastic and I didn’t want to put this down. This is a must read for anyone who loves future society books of any kind.

Check out the quiz on Facebook to see what faction you would be in!
