In the town of Malbry, Maddy stands alone as the one person who won’t conform to the new religion and whom everyone fears or dislikes. She likes stories and dreams, but the biggest difference between her and the people of the town is that she has a runemark on her hand. Runemarks mean trouble to the towns people. Maddie has grown up dealing with the goblins that get into wine cellars and other such problems and always these and other disasters are blamed on her. Her only friend is a traveler that comes through town once a year (never later than her birthday), his name is one-eye and he has a runemark too. One-eye has been her mentor and confidant as she has grown. This year however, One-eye shows up late to town and sends Maddy into Red Horse Hill to find something for him. Inside the hill she meets the god Loki and uncovers the Whisperer. This starts a chain of events that brings about death, destruction, snakes, and the fulfillment of prophecy.
If you are not into the Norse Gods this book may be a bit tiresome or confusing, but if you like books about the Gods then this one is fun and interesting. The ending left me with far too many questions, but it’s a fun one (in the book it even shows you the Rune symbols). I would have liked to know more about Sugar-and-sack, the goblin that Maddie names. I don’t care for the whisperer, but I thought there could have been more character detail and less talking about nothing that is important, itjust brings up more questions. Over all it was good, but long. It left it open for a sequel.

The twins, Josh and Sophie, are finally home! Scatty and Joan have been lost in time and Scatty’s twin sister is determined to find out what happened. The bad guys are in trouble by their masters and Dee is in the most trouble of all, but he has a new plan to rule the world himself and use Josh to get it. And to top it off Josh now has to learn fire magic from the master of fire Prometheus (brother to the witch that awoke Sophie). A lot more happens in book 4, but I can’t say too much more without giving away the best parts. There is another book to come… “The Warlock”.
Ever since Harry Potter I have been curious about Nicholas Flamel, but this book has made me more curious about Perenelle, Flamel’s wife. And I don’t see how the twins can be confused on if the Flamel’s are on the side of good or evil…I mean if someone like Joan of Arc is on the Flamel’s side shouldn’t that say something about what side they are on? And who is this mysterious hooded man with a hook for a hand? Did Captain Hook drop into history or is he something all together different! This was a good continuation of the last book, but I think I needed a bit more. It was set in only a few days and gave a lot of back story and stories within stories which worked, but I feel like I was deprived of the twins and Flamels at times and I’m really annoyed that Sophie can’t get to the witch’s memories about Perenelle. But, really if you have read the first then keep reading.

I saw this over the weekend and I have to say that it ranks up there with WallE, Up, Shrek, Ice Age, & Monsters Inc. I found the minions adorable and funny. If you want a good movie for everyone in the family then this is one to see. The movie previews only show some of the funny moments there are so many more in this film. I saw it in 3D and in my opinion it was worth it.

Marcus lives in California and on a day like any other he talks all his friends from around town into playing the game Sujuku-fun-magic instead of sticking around for school. They know how to avoid getting caught by the Gait readers (cameras that can tell who you are by the way you walk). But they have got a bad case of “wrong place, wrong time.” Homeland security picks them up (they don’t look like homeland security), gags and bags them, binds their hands (cutting off the circulation) and takes them to a prison where they are tortured and forced to give personal information to unknown people and then sent home after signing a form that says their stay with Homeland security was voluntary. Marcus decides to fight back. Using an x-box that was still unopened and helping the people under 25 to rise up against a government that is taking away everyones freedom. Marcus and his friends (like most teens of his time) are all tech savvy.
The book was awesome. Only the epilogue is preachy and talks at the reader telling them to rise up and take technology into their own hands. I stopped listening to the CD halfway into the epilogue. The rest of the book was fantastic. If you like books about teens rising up against something they find unjust, or books about possible futures, or even books about roll playing games, video games, or games in general then this is the book for you!

With this movie coming out I am re-reading the book. Death, despair, a birthday, and a wedding; all of this within the first few chapters and then there is the search for the horcrux’s and later the hallows.

The Sequel to Perfect Chemistry is here! Another great book!
In book one Alex Fuentes gave up his ties to the Latino Blood gang so he could be with Brittany. The rest of his family moved to Mexico to get away from the gangs before the younger Fuentes brothers could get jumped into the gang. In this, the second book, Carlos Fuentes, the middle child, has been sent to live with Alex in Colorado at his college. Alex asks Kiara, a girl at Carlos’ new school, to show Carlos around. Carlos who is not one to be told what to do or follow rules does not go along with this with ease. Kiara is the type of girl who dosent mind getting dirty. She and Carlos are like oil and water. Kiara is the good girl and Carlos is the bad boy. When Carlos is set up by someone and gets arrested Kiara’s parents take him in. Now under the same roof the tension between them gets more intense. As time goes on Kiara gets to see a side of Carlos that most don’t see. Carlos is concerned with who set him up and how he can keep from getting into more trouble while still being himself?
This sequal is, in my opinion, better than the first. The story of love is fun and funny as well. The epiloge is a little over the top in the “everything comes back at you” area. But I really enjoyed it.
