Kyle Kingsbury is the most popular guy at his school.  Every girl wants to date him and every guy wants to be him, and Kyle knows it.  Kyle is the type of person who likes to make fun of every one and everything, just because he can.  He is going to the dance with his popular girlfriend Sloane, but he also asked the creepy witch girl as a joke.  The maid got him the wrong corsage so he gave it to the girl running the ticket booth outside of the dance instead of tossing it to the ground.  When his fake date shows he is told he will regret it.  When he gets home that night the girl is in his room and she curses him.  He is turned into a hideous beast with hair from head to toe, with fangs and claws to boot.  And the real kicker is he has 2 years to find a girl that he loves, who loves him back and kiss her or else he stays a beast forever.  His dad, the TV personality, sends him to a house in the middle of nowhere after every plastic surgeon says its hopeless.

With the movie just around the corner, in July, I thought I should read the book.  And from the movie trailer I’m a little disappointed , but I’m hoping for the best when it comes to the movie.  The Beast in the book is an actual beast with claws, fangs, and hair. In the movie trailer it looks like he is tattooed, scarred & hairless.   He could pass for normal in New York, which he can’t in the book.  I am very much hoping that the Beastly movie isn’t another Blood & Chocolate movie fiasco.  The book is a great retelling of Beauty and the Beast.  The chat room chatter is fun, but I am still curious if SilentMaid got her wish or was turned to Sea Foam.  And the whole Mr. Anderson deal was just fun.  It’s a great read if you like retold fairy tales with a more current setting. I really enjoyed the book and think everyone should read it before seeing the movie!!!

I get scared sometimes when an author retells a classic story because if they don’t do it right, it sort of ruins the image I had in my head of the original. I think Flinn did an awesome job with retelling Beauty and the Beast. I like when old stories are modernized. I also saw the trailer for the movie and it really didn’t look anything like what Flinn was telling in Beastly. The transformation in the trailer reminded me of that character Nero in the StarTrek movie. I really do hope they don’t flip the whole plot. I read Blood and Chocolate but I haven’t seen the movie and from what I heard it sounds NOTHING like the book. The bottom line is you MUST read a book before you see the movie! Flinn’s ideas were interesting and the changes she made to the original story were necesary and they went along with the plot smoothly.

Haven’t read Beastly yet, but for Blood and Chocolate – the movie is NOTHING like the book. way too many changes, especially the ending.
